Viana do Bolo Carnival
We are going to Galicia to celebrate one of its most ancestral parties: Carnival, “O Entroido”, in Viana do Bolo. Viana do Bolo is a small and pleasant town in the province of Ourense, placed in the region known as the “Green Magic of Galicia”, which stands out thanks to its imposing mountains and fluvial cannons.
The costumes and floats’ rehearsals and preparations start early in the morning, at the end of the Epiphany.
Viana do Bolo Carnival is perhaps one of the most original and traditional carnivals in the region, in which it should be pointed out the importance of the “Thursday of Compadres” and the “Thursday of Comadres”. The young men and women steal the clothes from each other to dress the “Lardeiro” (an iron doll full of straw and firecrackers which is hung on a pole at Mayor Square) and in order to make fun of each other, trying to cover their bodies with flour.
The main day is “Fat Sunday”, in which a great parade full of groups, floats, concerts and “Boteiros” (typical Carnival character)… is organised. The Party of the Androlla is celebrated the same day; in this celebration you can taste the “androlla”, a typical product of the region, a sausage made from marinated, cured, pork chop,
Undoubtedly, these traditional parties have a lot of peculiarities worth knowing which will keep on surprising you.
