Festivity of the King Jaume I (Salou)
Every year, Salou reproduces the conquest of Mallorca in which the King Jaume I of Aragon defeated the Saracens on the first weekend of September. Parades, circus performers show, buffoons, knights and popular groups mark the medieval character of this festivity, that this year is celebrated the days 5th and 6th of September.
Traditionally, a market with more than 80 stands of handcrafted products is organised. But, undoubtedly, the most important event of this party is the parade of the entourage of the King, in which hundreds of locals dressed in period costumes and led by the king Jaume I and his wife Violant d'Hongria go through the streets of Salou to the beach of Llevant where a fight and a medieval tournament will be reproduced.
