6 tips to prepare your Camino de Santiago

The Camino de Santiago is one of the most unique and unforgettable experiences that a person can live in their life and as is well known there is no path like another. If you have made the decision to live this adventure, here you will find the main tips to be prepared for what awaits you, both mentally and physically.

3 tips for your head:

  • Improvise: the Camino is not a race, take the time you need. Try, if possible, to go with enough time to improvise and change the plans and course a bit. Perhaps when you are in the middle of the walk you will find places or detours that attract your attention and we recommend that you follow your instinct. That way you will live an unforgettable and unrepeatable adventure.

  • Take into account your physical level: it is very good that before starting you are clear about the stages that you have to follow, the hostels that are in the area and of course and very important, the distances. Plan a route that you can follow and enjoy. The effort will be inevitable, but you don't want to suffer more than necessary. It is important that along with the effort, also enjoy the process.

  • Alone or accompanied?: If you are going to do the Camino alone, don't worry. You're never alone. It is a good opportunity to get to know yourself more and also to open up and chat with different people with different experiences. If you are accompanied, allow yourself certain moments alone, you will enjoy and appreciate them more than ever.

What you can not forget:

  • Adapted footwear: a classic and perhaps the most important piece of advice. Wear shoes that have already been used and that are adapted to your foot. Also, remember to bring flip flops or sandals for moments of rest so that your feet can breathe.

  • Not too heavy backpack: it is very important that the backpack you choose allows you to have a good posture. The weight should be close to your body and should not exceed 10kg. At first it will be bearable, but there are many kilometres, don't underestimate it!

  • First-aid kit, your best friend: on an adventure like this, anything can happen and you have to be prepared. Do not overdo the preparation, but it is important that you take some basics with you such as plasters, sun cream, gelatin dressings or bandages.

Where do I begin?

Finally, if you have already decided what your starting point will be, you should plan how to get there. In addition, many of these same routes have a stop at the Rosalía de Castro Airport, for travelers who come from far away. We also have intercity and regional trips that connect these cities with other popular population centers on the Camino such as O Cebreiro, Fisterra, Muxía, Tui, etc.
