Summary

The bus, green engine of road transport

Monbus continuous for a long time a strong commitment to the environment and combating climate change. Because of this, the most representative companies of Monbus have been calculating for several years their Greenhouse Gas Emissions (known as “Carbon footprint”) and working to reduce these emissions, all under the framework of the ISO 14064 standard.

Carbon footprint is a way to calculate greenhouse gas emissions generated by vehicles. We not only talk about carbon dioxide, but also what is known as CO2 equivalent, which is a way of encompassing all the gases that produce the greenhouse effect on our planet, and which are responsible of Global Warming.

Making a simple a testing exercise of the emissions of a bus journey and another by car, we can obtain the different carbon footprints. For example, a bus trip of about 100 km generates 57,4 kilograms of CO2 equivalent. If the bus carries 55 passengers, the emissions per passenger are 1.04 kilograms of CO2 equivalent. The same trip made by car generates about 18,65 kilograms of CO2 equivalent, if the car carries 5 passengers the emissions per passenger are 3,74 kilograms of CO2 equivalent.

As you can see, traveling by bus is the most energy efficient and less polluting mode of transport, reducing emissions by 3.5 times higher than a trip by car.
