Santo Tomás Fair (San Sebastian)
The origin of this celebration, mid-nineteenth century, lies in the celebration of a popular market the 21th December. Santo Tomás Day, baserritarra people used to go to San Sebastián to pay the rents for the land they cultivate. Making the most of the occasion, they sell the best products from the country house and they also buy those things that they can not find in neighbouring villages.
That habit became in tradition and, finally it is a celebration.
Throughout the day, the old town of San Sebastian becomes a rural market and everything smells like fried chistorra and talo (a grilled pancake made of cornflour and water), cheese, cider, txakoli and honey.
There are livestock exhibitions and competitions:
- The twentieth Txistorra competition of Euskal Herria: from 11 a.m in Plaza Guipúzcoa
- Honey competition of Donostialdea: from 10 a.m in Plaza de la Bretxa
- Rural products competition: from 9 a.m in Plaza de la Constitución
