Capon Fair in Vilalba
This is a traditional and popular fair, internationally known and unique in the world. With over 200 years of history, each 21st December, “The Capon of Vilalba” attracts lots of people. Shop-keepers, restaurants’ owners, chefs from all the world, housewives and tourists come in the early morning to get the best catch.
This delicacy, the capon of Vilalba, is famous for the special rite that implies the selection of the chickens, their breeding, their care….; the long and meticulous process the capons have to pass until they are prepared for the fair as well as the excellent taste of their meat.
In the past, the capon was a legal tender. Nowadays, because it is an exquisite gastronomic product, it is used to pay rents and favours.
