Santiago Apostle Festivity (Santiago de Compostela)
From 15 to 31 July Galicia celebrates Santiago Apostle Festivity, patron saint of the city, of Galicia and of Spain. The Botafumeiro, the Cathedral, the pilgrims who end the Way of Saint James, thousands of people, incredible shows, great concerts, parades, traditional handcraft, bagpipes, religion, Galician gastronomy, orchestras, theatre, art, culture and a great party is what you will find is you come to Santiago de Compostela.
The night of 24th July, the fireworks in honour of the Apostle play the leading role, at the same time the great castle of pyrotechnics which emulates the Gothic facade of the Cathedral sets fire. It is a spectacle worthy of admiration which takes place at Obradoiro Square.
The 25th of July is celebrated the day of Galicia, Día da Patria, holiday in Galicia, is the big day. It is celebrated a solemn mass, in which the famous Botafumeiro, with its hypnotic swinging, sprinkles all the faithful with smoke of incense.
